In Australia, we have a ‘Surprise Chef’ TV program – this chef asks people in the supermarket if he can come home and create a meal for them, using ingredients from their trolley (who would say no?!). We used this idea for our activity … sisters pledged to bring along an item from the prepared list. They were split into 3 teams, and a ‘runner’ chosen. Everybody got to look at the ingredients (some even tried reorganizing them a little more conveniently!). The object was to create a meal from whatever ingredients your runner brought back. It was so crazy, there was butter flowing through the servers and lots of laughs … so much so, Institute had to move on account of the noise! We had some fabulous meals created – definitely the best supper out!
Prizes were awarded: for Creativity – silver spoons decorated as people, Edibility – Anti-Acid Tablets and for Presentation – Cocktail Umbrellas. Cleaning up after themselves was included in the time limit. Everyone had a ball.

We had our Stake Leadership meeting last night and all the Wards shared such wonderful ideas. One of the wards is focusing on homemaking basics each month and she said they made apple pies start to finish (raw pies were taken home to bake) and that they had almost 80 sisters there! Friends and neighbors were invited and everyone had a blast. I’ve seen other sisters post here about pie and bread making demos and how successful they are. We will definitely give this a try.

Theme: What Mother Never Taught Me
We are offering the following classes:
Class 1: Basic Sewing – how to hem, sew on a button, repair a tear, etc. (we are always so surprised when sisters tell us they can’t do these basic things.)
Class 2: Humanitarian Aid Dress Project – this is an on going class for all those sisters who want to make dresses to add to our Stake’s humanitarian aid project for the year. There are beginners paired with experienced seamstresses, donated fabric, inexpensive dress patterns, etc. This class will end in Oct.
Class 3: Visiting Butcher – to teach how to cut up a chicken, best cuts of meat for your $, when to throw out that old sponge, kitchen safety, etc.
Class 4: Stage One of Organization – each sister will bring her “junk
drawer(s)” in a bag to class and learn how to organize. We will have boxes for each sister to place her “Keep”, “Donate”, and “Trash” items from her junk drawers. (We hope it will encourage them to continue to bigger things in their homes).
During our Topic Presentation Lesson the teacher will present new ways to use old things – or “The Original Use and the “Aha! Use”.
