In the television show Friends that aired in the 1990’s there was an episode where Kramer was very into relaxation techniques. When he started to feel tense he would stop what he was doing and say, “Serenity Now”. By the end of the show he realized that just saying the words wasn’t helping very much and at one point he was yelling, “Serenity NOW!!” His friend looks at him as asks, “Are you supposed to scream it?” If only serenity were as easy to attain as just saying it.
There are times that we just don’t feel that we can stop and care for ourselves. Even Enoch had trouble remembering to take cheer, “I will refuse to be comforted; but the Lord said unto Enoch: Lift up your heart, and be glad…” (Moses 7:44)
Sometimes, all that is needed to take time to still one’s soul is making or finding a place where you can feel peace. Thankfully we’ve been given the formula for quieting and healing the mind. It is learning to be quiet.
There are so many ways to refill our cups; we just need to take time to do it-you are worth it. Remember that God wants us to take time to refill our spiritual reserves. “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22
