Family Night in Minutes

Have you ever remembered at the last minute that tonight is Monday night- family night? Never fear there are quick and easy ways to have a fun and spiritual family home evening with little to no preparation. Simply refer to this list when you have a busy and frazzled Monday and are tempted to cancel family night.

1. Visit with a scripture character (see our Family Night Fever ebook)

2. Prop Box- fill a box with props that will go along with several scripture stories. When at a lost for a FHE idea, pull out the box and use one of the props to give a lesson.

3. Impromptu skits- from any scripture story

4. Scripture readers- read a story from one of the church’s scripture readers.

5. Penny walk with spiritual/nature talks. A penny walk is easy and fun. Take a penny with you as you go on a walk with your family. At each corner flip the penny- heads you go left, tails you go right. While on your walk talk about the beauty of nature and how it is God’s creations. Perhaps talk about the creation story.

6. Church film and discussion. If you do not have church produced films at home, borrow one from the church library. After watching the video, discuss what you saw and the feelings you felt.

7. FHE videos. These are awesome, quick and easy FHE’s on DVD. It even includes the music. We love using these. http://www.fhedvd.com/

8. Take a drive – listen to conference talks. Afterward, go for an ice cream treat at your favorite ice cream shop. Bonus- little ones might be asleep before you arrive home. Just be sure to have closing prayer before they nod off.

9. Take a trip down memory lane. Go through photo albums and/or family group sheets and relive old times and share stories of that the kids love to hear over and over again. This is great for family history.

10. Round robin style favorite scripture story retelling.

Sometimes the spontaneous, unplanned family home evenings are the most memorable.
