Super Saturday Ideas

We would LOVE to feature your ideas or things you have done at a Super Saturday.

May is our Homemaking Skills month and we decided to do it as a Super Saturday. We will set up the gym as a “Shopping Center” and each class will be a store. The garden center will have a class on herbs, flowers, gardening in small spaces. The bakery will teach cake decorating. The Bath and Beauty will have a class on bath salts and facials. Etc. You get the idea. we are very excited about this one and hope we can pull it all together!

For our Super Saturday event, we are doing a 25 cent to $1.00 table that will have gift bags to decorate, lollipop spiders, paper Mache boxes, stars shape mostly, to look like Santa’s, candy cane mouse, stamping Christmas cards, etc..

There will also be handouts of cookies in a jar, food mixes in a jar, a cheap usable gift ideas list, the Santa’s keys poem, and all the good Christmas stories like The White Stocking, Jakes Orange, etc.

Then for our main crafts, we are making Turkey pumpkins where you paint the wooden pieces (feathers, head and feet) and then stick them into a pumpkin.

I have a cousin who makes mega amounts of different plaques and things on a computerized saw and so I had him make up 40 plaques that say either:
“Families Are Forever”, “Return with Honor” or “Love One Another.” The Sisters can either paint them, stain them or just leave them plain and spray a sealant over them. They are about 3 ft. long and are beautiful!

We are also doing a Pumpkin Trio, made out of wooden logs, of different sizes, paint them orange and then you drill a hole in the top and put a stick in it for the stem. Tie some raffia on the stem and you have a decoration for Halloween or Thanksgiving.

Then, we have a snowman that stands about 3 ft. tall that we will paint and he is holding a tree with lights. The Sister teaching it got the idea from the Terry’s Village catalog! He is so cute!

For lunch we will have Chicken salad with croissants and fruit and then we asking the Sisters to bring their favorite cookies with the recipes.

We had our stake Super Saturday yesterday. It was very successful but it sure wore me out. Since all the RS presidencies were new in the stake and I had been involved in the SS just for our 3 wards in our building last year, I decided to put one together for the entire stake. What an undertaking. Thank goodness my homemaking leader and her crew are so wonderful. It ran from 10 am to 2 pm. Classes included:

1. Ceramics - temples, Christus, Jesus with children, and a family praying ($10 average per ceramic)

2. Gobbler greeting - a fun foam craft

3. Scrapbooking - everyone just brought their own stuff to work on

4. Humanitarian Projects - quilts, dresses (most people didn’t even help with this)

5. Family Proclamation - this was on muslin and then we used two fabrics and sewed a nice wall hanging ($5.00)

6. Gifts Soaps - $1 to make

7. Quilting Wall Hanging - a sister showed how to make a square for the wall hanging

8. Gifts from Your Kitchen - gifts in a jar, gift basket, demonstration

9. The Gracious Table - how to entertain

10. Christmas Cards and Stationary - stamping to make these

11. Basics of Room RE-Visions - rearranging your room and decorating your home

12. Candy making - this was a demo. we had lots of yummy samples and then she made a cookbook for everyone and then explained how to make each of the recipes.

For lunch we had pasta dishes, salads, rolls/breads and desserts. We had 22 from our ward alone. About 100 or so in attendance.
