Twist On Self Reliance
By Susie in MN
Just letting you know about our HFPE we’re having at the end of the month. Our theme is Self-Reliance. We are inviting the young women and the emphasis will be based on assessing our job skills “in case of an emergency”.
We have a sister who is giving a lesson on “Dressing for Success” — basically how to present yourself positively in case you needed to go on a job interview.
We’re also having a “Resume Workshop” and several sisters are giving us copies of their resumes for display. We have a sister who works in Human Resources who will talk about interviewing techniques and how to assess the skills you already have. Our monthly lesson (beginning of HFPE) will be on skills you already have that you can turn into at-home income. We’re not trying to push the sisters into the workplace, but we’ve had a lot of displaced homemakers lately, and we’re just trying to emphasize the
importance of being prepared.
As far as food, we’re just having a potluck and the dish has to include at least one ingredient you grew, preserved, dried or froze. I’m bringing an appetizer - crackers with a block of cream cheese that I spread with Spiced Tomato Preserves — sounds weird, but until you’ve tried it you’ll never know how good it is! I have millions of tomatoes in the summer and this is one way to use them up differently, so if anybody wants a recipe I can forward it.
