Special Rocks: A Mommy and Me Activity
By Summer Tremelling

My daughter has always found that “special” rock for me every time we were in
the garden. Over time, my little collection became so large that I just had to
do something about it. I decided to have her pick out a dozen of the “most
special” rocks for a special project we could do together. For the others, we
would return them to the garden for another day.
Our project was to turn the
little stones into colorful creations that we could place around the flower
beds. That eliminated the need to have a pile of rocks, and we were able to
identify the special stones once they were returned to their rightful place.
I
gathered some paint brushes, acrylic paint, jars of water and paper plates. We
then laid out an old sheet on our lawn and had our own painting party. My other
children saw what we were up to and decided to join in the fun. They sure had a
great time creating little works of art that didn’t need to take up residence in
our home.
The end result? A quick and easy craft anyone can do, special rocks
that are truly “special”, and best of all ... quality time with my kids.
