Remember Your Young Women Values with a YW Decorative Tile!

Kathleen Lubeck stated it well when she wrote “Ask a young woman what the Young Women Values are, and chances are she’ll recite them to you on the spot, along with the Young Women Theme and Motto. But young women don’t just know the Values by heart — they’ve also taken them to heart. The principles are strengthening testimonies and changing lives in ways that aren’t always measurable by statistics. They’re helping young women draw closer to the Savior” (April 1989 Ensign).

Because these YW values are so central to the lives of every LDS young woman, we decided to create a beautiful decorative tile which serves as a reminder of the values that are helping Young Women draw closer to the Savior. 

This YW decorative tile not only is a wonderful reminder of our values, but is a fun and meaningful craft idea for girl’s camp, or YW activities.  Not only will young women enjoy making the tiles together, but they will have something to cherish for years to come.

Each YW decorative tile vinyl lettering kit features the young woman’s name in a beautiful script font in the center of the tile, which is then encompassed by the young woman’s values in the shape of a square around the edge of the tile, The individual values are also separated by a decorative heart, signifying that the young woman has taken these values to heart, and is striving to live accordingly.  This craft is available for both a 6” and a 12” tile.  Depending on what color of tile you choose, the completed project would look something like this:

To complete this craft, you will need the following:

1.      A ceramic tile (either 6x6” or 12x12”), which is available at any home improvement or flooring store for between .60 cents and $2.00.

2.      Vinyl Lettering kit for the YW Decorative Tile from www.vinylcraftlettering.com.  (vinyl craft lettering offers 30% discount to church groups). 

3.      Clear-Coat Spray, which is available at any home improvement store in the spray paint section. 

Directions:

1.      Clean the tile using a damp towel (no cleaners).

2.      Dry the tile thoroughly.

3.      Apply the vinyl lettering as per instructions included with the lettering kit.

4.      In a well ventilated area (preferably outside) spray the finished tile with a light coat of clear-coat.  Let it dry.

5.      Add one more layer of clear coat.

6.      Display the tile somewhere where you will see it, allowing it to act as a constant reminder of the young women’s values.
