Christmas Enrichment Program
by: Jolene Gearhart

I didn't know what to do for Christmas and was
feeling worried about doing the same old thing for our Christmas program and so
I came up with the idea of assembling a wreath for our Christmas program, after
thinking more and more about it I figured out a spiritual program to go along
with this idea.
It's a bit expensive, but we save up all year to
make this one memorable. We have bought 18" evergreen wreaths for everyone,
also 2" inch stars for each wreath, bells for each wreath, a bow, an ornament
and holly berries for each wreath. We also purchased wire to glue to the back of
all of these things for easy assembling at the church.
With the idea that at
each table there will be a wrapped box with one symbol to hand out to everyone
in each box. I.E. 100 stars will be in table #1 box. Here is the program we
came up with:
Christmas Program Enrichment 12/2/04
Welcome:
Prayer, blessing of food:
Dinner: 6:30 to 7:00
Primary girls come in and sing:
Samuel tells of the Baby Jesus (children’s song book)
Symbolism of Christmas 1 to 2 minutes: Jolene Gearhart
Table #1 Bow- Christmas Colors
Amanda Ambriz: The colors of Christmas have special meanings behind them: green
symbolizes eternal life in Christ, White symbolizes the purity of Christ, gold,
the Christ divine and Silver represents the Redemption in Christ.
Pass out bows while Ashleigh Vilardi plays on guitar O’ Holy Night.
Table #2 Holly Berries
Stacy Bush: Going along with the colors of Christmas, Red is significant- it is
a symbol of our Savior’s eternal sacrifice for our sins. (take berries out of
box) These berries remind us of the blood Jesus shed for us.
Pass out berry strands during duet of Beautiful Savior (Children’s Song Book):
Jennifer Isaacs and Tabitha Baker
Table #3 Stars
Susan Adams: Neal A Maxwell has said “The new star of Bethlehem would have had
to be placed in its precise orbit long, long before it shone so precisely! By
reflecting such careful divine design, it underscored what the Lord has said;
“All things must come to pass in their time” (D&C 64:32). His planning and
precision pertain not only to astrophysical orbits but to human orbits as well.
This is a stunning thing for us to contemplate in all seasons!... There is a
personalized plan for each of us. Like the Christmas star, each of us, if
faithful, has an ordained orbit, a priesthood path as we pass through this
second estate.”
Pass out stars while Corrina Robinson plays The First Noelle on crystal flute
Table #4 Bells
Emily McKnight: Luke 2: 10-14 “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for,
behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the
Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you…And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the
Highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men”
Pass out bells while Young Women sing Christmas Bells (Children’s Song Book)
Table #5 Christmas Ornaments
Dina Barnes: Christmas ornaments in general remind us of all of the beautiful
things Jesus has done: Traditional ball ornaments remind us our world was
created by God, the different colors remind us that the gospel is for all of the
different nations and people on the earth.
Pass out ornaments while we all sing: All creatures of Our God and King hymnal
page 62.
Pass out mints and hot chocolate.
Wreath:
Sis. Russell 5-10 minute talk on symbolism of the Wreath. (Circular-everlasting
life, circle of family, God’s unending love).
Pass out wreaths while Victoria Clausing plays "O Come all ye Faithful" on French
horn.
Ask the women to put together their wreaths together and display a few already
made for ideas.
Closing prayer:
