"Are You Prepared? "
Home Family Personal Enrichment Night

by: Heidi West

Each sister was ask to bring a Dime, Quarter and flashlight that night. We prepared the gym with a buffet of foods for dinner on long tables a self serve dinner. (This can be anything). The tables were decorated with 1 gal. water jugs in the middle of the tables, attached were a tag with the
scripture D& C "if ye are prepared ye shall not fear".

We had smaller bottles of water for them to drink with dinner. The gym was prepared and lights turned out inside gym. As the sisters filled in the RS room we handed out the following questions see below: We had our 10 min. lesson then. Have the sisters answer these questions by going around the room and asking each other.
If that sister can answer yes then she writes her name on the
line next to the question: NO name can appear twice on one sheet.

preparedness

While the sisters are going around answering questions take 3 sisters at a time walk them down the hall with there flashlight (if they brought one that is) to the gym where it's pitch dark and have them eat dinner in the dark.
Only using there flashlights to see. After dinner turn on the lights and put together the first-aid kits.

First Aid Kits:

Black film canister with grey lid
dime
quarter
sm. gauze in packets
Alcohol swab pad
Tylenol pack with 2 Tylenol in it
2 matches cut down in size to fit
1 Double mint gum stick
sm. piece of soap wrapped in foil
needle thread
sandpaper cut round glued on top of lid (for sticking the matches)
gauze tape wrapped around outside of film canister

They must go in the canister this way to fit:

First drop the dime and quarter in the bottom of canister then wrap the gauze, alcohol, Tylenol in half with the matches inside it all. Take the gum and wrap that around all of this and push it in the canister. Place the soap wrapped in foil down in the middle of the matches then thread the needle and push it in the soap. (The sandpaper should have already been glued to the top of the film canister before the evening begins.) Fit the lid on and wrap the gauze tape around the outside of canister and your done.
This really does all go in I know it seems impossible but it does. Then we had a speaker talk on ways to better be prepared and had tables decorated with different emergency items people had and where they got them and how much. It was a fun but learning experience for all!
