The Living Scriptures

by: Genevie Doyle

Objective:  Each team of youth will be enacting their specified scripture story using all of the given props.

Preparation: Before the activity get the following items ready

2-3 Bags of various props (ex. A stuffed animal, a hole puncher, a cup…use your imagination!)

2-3 Sets of Scriptures

1-2 Video Cameras

Activity Night:

After the youth arrive, divide them into 2-3 groups of 5-6 youth (adjust if you have a larger/smaller number).  After everyone is in groups, the leader will give each group a set of scriptures and assign them a story (with the scripture reference) that they will be enacting (Ex. Lehi’s Dream, Noah’s Ark etc).  The group can chose to have someone narrate if desired.  The leader will then hand each group a bag of props and explain that the youth must use all of these props somewhere in their enactment.

Each group has 20-25 minutes to prepare their enactment.  When the time is up, a leader will come around to each group and videotape the each group’s polished performance.

After all groups have been videotaped, everyone will meet back together and sit down with their refreshments and watch the videos.

Suggested Refreshments:

Popcorn for the videos and or root beer floats

Other Suggestions:

We would have this activity once a year and save all the performances so the following year they can watch last year’s groups.
